China sent a record number of warships and a dozen and a half aircraft to Taiwan in one day
Last week, the People's Liberation Army of China updated the record for the number of warships sent to Taiwan. At the same time, it is not clear what such activity is connected with.
Here's What We Know
The previous record stood for almost a year. In August 2022, China sent 14 warships to the island. This was in connection with the visit of Nancy Pelosi (Nancy Pelosi) to Taiwan. China's response was unprecedented military exercises near the island nation, involving aircraft and ships.
Another large exercise took place in the spring of 2022. During the April event, China sent a dozen ships to Taiwan. A new record was set last week. Within 24 hours, 16 warships had positioned themselves around the island.
They included Type 075 Guangxi landing ships, Type 052D Baotou destroyers, Type 054A Anyang and Type 903A Chaohu frigates for resupply. Along with them, 15 Chinese warplanes approached Taiwan.
