B-2 Spirit, B-52H Stratofortress and B-1B Lancer - the U.S. Air Force used all types of strategic bombers simultaneously
The US Air Force held an exercise in Alaska, in which strategic aircraft took part. All three types of bombers arrived in the northernmost state.
Here's What We Know
Recently we wrote that the B-2 Spirit nuclear bomber flew to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (Elmendorf-Richardson) as part of the concept of Agile Combat Employment (Agile Combat Employment). It is learnt that on 18 and 19 July it took part in the exercise alongside the B-52H Stratofortress and B-1B Lancer.
The event allowed it to practice operating from an unfamiliar airfield. For the B-2 Spirit nuclear bomber, it was the first major exercise since resuming flights after a six-month pause that was caused by an accident at Whiteman Base in December 2022.
There are no strategic bombers at Elmendorf-Richardson, so the aircraft came from other U.S. Air Force bases:
- B-2 Spirit - Whiteman Missouri;
- B-52H Stratofortress - Minot, North Dakota;
- B-1B Lancer - Dyess, Texas.
The bombers arriving in Alaska are proof of the flexibility of US military aviation, as they came from different areas of responsibility. This was stated by Major General Andrew Gebara.
It's worth noting that while the B-2 Spirit stayed at the base for a few months, the B-1B and B-52H flew a lot. Stratofortress bombers have been participating in exercises with South Korean forces, and several Lancer aircraft have recently returned from Europe.
