Scammers have stolen over $1,000,000,000 in crypto since 2021

According to the US Federal Trade Commission, since the beginning of 2021, approximately 46,000 cryptocurrency holders have become victims of fraudsters.

In a new report, the US Federal Trade Commission notes that in the 15 months since the beginning of last year, attackers have stolen over $1,000,000,000 worth of cryptocurrencies, i.e. each victim lost an average of $2,600.

Most often stolen the most popular digital currency, bitcoin. The share was about 70%. On the Ethereum and Tether accounted for respectively 9% and 10%.

The Federal Trade Commission most often received allegations of cryptocurrency theft from users aged 25-40. Based on this, it was concluded that it was this age category that suffered more than others from crypto scammers.

Compared to 2018, the number of reports of theft has increased 60 times. In addition, the amount of stolen funds is also increasing. So, if during 2021 scammers stole $680 worth of cryptocurrencies 000 000, then in the first quarter of this year alone, users have already lost $329,000,000. In 2020, 2019 and 2018. - $130,000,000, $33,000,000 and $12,000,000 respectively.
