Russian Buk destroyed a $5,000 Ukrainian drone with a $200,000 missile - it could not be shot down for 10 days
Vladimir Yatsenko, one of the founders of Monobank, has been developing drones for the Ukrainian Armed Forces and shared an entertaining story.
What we know
Yatsenko told the story of how Russian military had been unable to shoot down a Ukrainian drone for 10 days, which cost $5,000 maximum. Eventually they had to use the Buk surface-to-air missile system to destroy the drone. A missile worth $200,000,000 was launched at the UAV.
"We had a case where one of the drones we handed over to the AFU could not be shot down by air defenses for 10 days. They used a BUK missile to destroy it. Imagine, a simple, practically basic drone model that cost no more than $5,000 made the enemy spend a rocket worth $200,000,000, Vladimir Yatsenko
Banker notes that volunteers continue to buy drones worth $100,000 - 200,000, although cheaper UAVs can be used for some purposes. For example, the Cypriot drone Poseidon costs about $130,000, while its Chinese counterpart Mugin EV350 (pictured above) can be purchased for $20,000.
