Ukraine Destroyed Russian Military Equipment for $16.56 Billion in Six Months - Cruiser "Moscow" Remains Russia's Most Expensive Loss
For the Independence Day of Ukraine, Forbes magazine prepared an article about the cost of Russian military equipment, which was destroyed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine over six months.
Here's What We Know
In six months, the Russians lost 12,142 pieces of equipment at a total cost of $16.56 billion. However, this amount does not include missiles. They were shot down for $7.5 billion in the first two months of the full-scale invasion alone.
The main loss of the Russian armed forces (both in symbolic terms and in value) is the flagship cruiser Moscow, better known as the Russian warship. It was attacked on April 13, probably by the Neptune missile, and went down the next day. The cost of the cruiser is $750 million.
Before that, Russia's most expensive loss was the IL-76 aircraft, which is estimated at $86 million. The top 5 include the Saratov landing craft, as well as the Su-30SM and Su-34 aircraft. Their cost is $75 million, $50 million and $40 million respectively.
A total of 234 aircraft worth $5.3 billion were destroyed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces over six months. Russia also lost 1,924 tanks worth $2.98 billion and 4,243 armored combat vehicles worth $2.53 billion. The cost of helicopters shot down is $2.08 billion, and destroyed air defense systems worth $1.03 billion.
