The U.S. Navy has signed a contract with Lockheed Martin to produce MH-60R helicopters for Australia.
Here's What We Know
The contract amount was $503.7 million. The U.S. State Department approved the deal in the fall of 2021. The original estimated value of the contract was nearly $1 billion. According to the deal, Australia will receive 12 helicopters by October 2026.
Thus, the fleet of MH-60R will be increased to 36 units. The state received the first 24 helicopters between 2013 and 2016. The contract amount was A$3 billion ($2.06 billion). As we can see, the cost of helicopters has halved in nine years.
