By the end of 2022 Ukraine will receive two newest German air defense systems IRIS-T, which even Germany does not have
The Air Forces of Ukraine will soon be armed with the long-awaited German IRIS-T air defense systems.
Here's What We Know
German Ambassador Anka Feldhusen said that deliveries will begin next month. The first IRIS-T air defense system will be delivered in October, and the second one by the end of this year.
According to Anka Feldhusen, the anti-aircraft missile systems are being developed specifically for Ukraine. Even the Bundeswehr does not have such air defense systems. In total, Germany promises to send four IRIS-T systems to Ukraine. All of them will be delivered before the end of 2023.
IRIS-T can shoot down targets at the distance up to 40 km and height up to 20 km. The anti-aircraft defense system is designed to destroy aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, rockets, unmanned aerial vehicles and radar missiles.
