Meta closed the project to create a smart watch, the novelty was supposed to compete with the Apple Watch

According to Reuters, the corporation decided to close the project due to budget cuts. All employees, who were previously engaged in the development of the watch will be transferred to the department to create augmented reality glasses.

Rumors about the development of Meta smart watches appeared in 2021. The novelty was planned to to compete with the Apple Watch. The watch was supposed to have a Fitbit-style design, two cameras, an Android operating system, a heartbeat sensor, and the ability to track steps, sleep, and quickly post content to Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Incidentally, in addition to shutting down the smartwatch project, Zuckerberg followed in Musk's footsteps: 11,000 Meta employees will be out of work in the coming days.
