SpaceX announces Starshield, a secure version of Starlink for government agencies
SpaceX introduced a secure version of the Starlink service, aimed at the public sector.
Here's What We Know
Starlink for government agencies is called Starshield. The service meets more stringent requirements for data transmission security by means of some "additional high-security cryptographic capabilities”. Starshield will use the same technology as Starlink.
SpaceX notes that it will be able to build additional Starshield systems from scratch upon customer request. One of the biggest clients of Elon Musk's company will be the U.S. Department of Defense, which has long been using the services of SpaceX.
Falcon 9 will become a part of Starshield system. The rocket has been successfully certified by the Pentagon to perform classified space missions in the interests of U.S. defense. It is also noted that the new service can be integrated into a network of government satellites that have already been put into orbit.
