By the end of 2022, sales of iPhone 14 smartphones will not exceed 78.1 million units. The key reason is the coronavirus outbreak in China and related restrictions.

Here's What We Know

Foxconn's Zhengzhou plant produces the lion's share of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max smartphones. According to TrendForce, due to quarantine restrictions, the production lines at the plant are no more than 70% utilized.

The Taiwanese company tried to move some production from Zhengzhou to Shenzhen, but it had little effect. At least in the fourth quarter of this year.

Apple will be looking for another partner who can set up production of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max smartphones. Luxshare could become it, but it has one facility, and it is located in China. At the same time, the Cupertino-based manufacturer will focus on India and Vietnam in the future.

Production of smartphones in Vietnam will be established only in the second half of next year. As for India, here Apple wants to double production volumes in 2023.

Another problem for Apple will be a drop in smartphone shipments in the first quarter of 2023. Experts believe that shipments of all models will decline by 22% compared to the same period in 2022. The key reasons are the Chinese New Year and an increase in the incidence of disease, which is expected after the lifting of quarantine restrictions.
