Experts at iFixit have disassembled the new MacBook Pro, following Apple's instructions for do-it-yourself repairs. But repairing it is still a challenge

Experts at iFixit have got their hands on the new MacBook Pro notebook, with the main changes being the upgraded M2 Pro and M2 Max processors. Best of all, they followed Apple's official do-it-yourself repair instructions in full. Does it work? Let's find out.

Here's What's New About It

Except for the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, the new laptops are virtually identical to their predecessors. That's why iFixit used the do-it-yourself repair manual for the 2021 MacBook Pro models. And that's because these instructions weren't available at the time of disassembly for the previous generation, and they're not yet available for the new MacBook Pro.

Apple's manual is quite detailed and easy to understand. But it's 162 pages long, so if you do decide to use it for do-it-yourself repairs, patience to you! But even though there are detailed instructions, repairs will become very tricky, as the MacBook Pro still has some serious repairability issues. The main one is that many of the parts are soldered to the motherboard.

That's why the MacBook Pro 2023 received only a 5 out of a possible 10 points from iFixit for repairability.
