Chinese hyperloop will connect Hangzhou and Shanghai - the 150km route takes 15 minutes

The route between the cities of Hangzhou and Shanghai has won a design competition for the first line of China's version of the hyperloop. The route in the pipe will be 150 km long.

Here's What We Know

China is testing underground tunnels at full speed, but so far the country does not have full-fledged technology to build a route in a low-pressure tube. Despite that, Chinese experts believe that after 15 years there will be a wide network of underground tunnels on the territory of the Celestial Empire.

The Shanghai-Hangzhou route is competing with three other projects: Beijing-Shijiazhuang, Chengdu-Chongqing and Guangzhou-Shenzhen. The line between Shanghai and Hangzhou was able to win due to the relatively flat terrain. It is expected to have great economic potential thanks to its high population density.

China's first hyperloop is expected to launch in 2035. The train will travel at speeds of up to 1000 km/h. A journey of 150 km will take 15 minutes. It takes 1 hour for a conventional train to get from one station to another.
