Broadband for all - the US has allocated $40bn to connect every American to the internet

Every US resident will be connected to broadband as part of a high-speed internet infrastructure programme. The government has allocated $40 billion for this purpose.

Here's What We Know

The administration of US President Joe Biden plans to connect everyone in the country to broadband by 2030. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act was passed to do this.

Each state will receive a minimum of $100 million and by December of this year must develop a project to distribute the funds. By early spring of next year, the National Telecommunications and Information Authority will approve the plans.

In the spring of 2024, the distribution of a portion (20%) of the funds and the deployment of the internet infrastructure will begin. At least 80% of the money will be distributed within around two years.
