Counterpoint Research: Apple could overtake Samsung to become the global smartphone market leader this year
Even though it's only August, Counterpoint Research has already shared its predictions for the outcome of 2023 for the smartphone market.
Here's What We Know
Counterpoint Research predicts that global smartphone sales will decline by 6% to 1.15 billion units this year. And that will be the worst result in a decade.
But despite the drop in overall smartphone shipments, the market for premium devices is pretty resilient. So Apple could overtake Samsung this year and lead the smartphone market. Samsung has been the sales leader for years with Apple breathing down its back, but that could change this year.
Analysts believe that Apple could overtake Samsung in sales if it doesn't delay the launch of the new iPhone 15 range, if the new models are successful and if the company continues to grow in new markets - particularly India.
How accurate this prediction will be - we'll find out next year. But for now, the scenario looks pretty realistic.
