Google appeals to the court to dismiss the Ministry of Justice's claim for monopolisation of advertising technologies
Google has filed a motion in a Virginia federal court to dismiss the Department of Justice's antitrust lawsuit against it.
Here's What We Know
The Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against Google in January 2023, accusing the company of monopolising digital advertising technologies through "anticompetitive and exclusionary behaviour".
The Attorney General stated during the initial announcement of the lawsuit that Google had used anticompetitive, exclusionary and unlawful behaviour to eliminate or seriously reduce any threat to its dominance over digital advertising technology.
According to the agency's press release last year, the lawsuit alleges that Google controls digital advertising tools to the point where it takes an average of more than 30 per cent of the traffic that passes through its digital advertising products.
Google now argues that the DOJ has not shown how the company controls at least 70 per cent of the market, a threshold used in some previous cases to qualify as a monopolist.
