Israel wants to replace old Patriot SAMs with more modern weapons of its own design
The Israeli Air Force will decommission several MIM-104 Patriot systems over the next two months.
Here's What We Know
Israel wants to replace Patriot missile defence systems with more modern air defence systems in the near future. In February, the Israeli Air Force already announced that it was gradually replacing Patriot batteries, as well as Yahalom. It was noted that personnel will undergo retraining to master the new systems.
"We are currently in the process of reducing (the number of) systems until all systems are withdrawn," explained the head of the 138th Battalion of the Air Defence Group.
The plan is to replace the old air defence systems with their own, including the Iron Dome. The newspaper also noted that "it is unclear what will happen to the Patriot batteries, which are very much needed by Ukraine, which is trying to protect its skies from Russian missiles."
