6G sets new data speed record, surpassing 5G by 500 times
The world is now witnessing the spread of the latest generation mobile network - 5G. The maximum data transfer rate in 5G network under ideal conditions and with the most powerful equipment reaches 10 Gbps, which is quite a lot. It is reported that the development of networks of the next, 6th generation, is already underway and the first devices with support for 6G networks will appear not earlier than 2030. But the first tests of 6G network capabilities are already underway and they are impressive.
Here's What We Know
A 6G demonstration test was carried out in Japan and achieved a data transfer rate of 100Gbps, which is 10 times faster than the peak speed of 5G and 500 times faster than the average 5G-enabled smartphone. That means you can download eight or nine medium-quality, 1.5GB Netflix movies in a second.
The device used in the test operated on high-frequency bands from 100GHz to 300GHz. The high 6G data rates make it possible to drive autonomous vehicles, perform remote operations by surgeons and quickly download high-definition films.
However, despite the wider adoption of 5G signals, many of these examples, such as autonomous vehicles and remote surgeries, have yet to become widely available. Experts say that if they were wrong in their assumptions about what 5G will bring, there's no need to worry. All of this will certainly come with the introduction of 6G.
6G will also increase bandwidth, allowing more traffic to be connected to the same network at the same time. 6G speeds are expected to make Wi-Fi unnecessary for many users and this is already starting to happen with the current 5G speeds.
