"A huge protracted mess": journalists and insiders revealed the dire situation in the development of the Perfect Dark reboot
Perfect Dark, which is supposed to be a reboot of the dystopian shooter series, was officially announced in 2020.
Shortly after that, rumours began to appear online in large numbers that The Initiative studio was not coping with the development of the game. Confirmation of this was the announcement that Crystal Dynamics studio - the developer of the last parts of Tomb Raider - is joining the workflow.
But, apparently, this decision did not save the situation with Perfect Dark.
Here's What We Know
Several reputable insiders reported that the development pace of Perfect Dark has not changed compared to IGN's information from last year.
There will be no sequel to The Evil Within and Pray: Microsoft is shutting down Tango Gameworks, Arkane Austin and two other studios, including Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin, insider Jeff Grubb reported that "the game is still in dire straits." He explained that the situation is so dire that Perfect Dark is, in fact, still in the early stages of development, and the game designers can't even decide whether it will be a third-person or first-person action game, which, remember, determines most of the game's key mechanics.
Jeff Grubb's words were confirmed by another well-known insider Shinobi602, but he did not go into details.
But the journalist of the portal VG247 Alex Donaldson said that:
... I have heard some crazy stories about the development of this game, which I did not publish out of respect for the team, which is trying hard to push this boulder to the top of the mountain. But my patience is coming to an end.
For his part, blogger Liam Robertson added:
From what I've heard about the production of the new Perfect Dark, it's worthy of a video of its own. It's just a huge, drawn-out mess.
Judging by such unoptimistic comments, no one would be surprised if Microsoft cancels development of the Perfect Dark relaunch, as the game has already eaten up a huge amount of resources and even more funds are needed to continue development.
