Amazon will increase its drone delivery area with new BVLOS technology
The US Federal Aviation Administration has allowed Amazon to increase the range of its drones used to deliver goods. The company was able to convince the regulator of the reliability and safety of BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) technology.
Here's What We Know
The US regulatory body prohibits the use of courier drones beyond line of sight. The Federal Aviation Administration only allows UAVs to be used to deliver goods when the operator can maintain direct line of sight with the drone throughout the flight.
Amazon created its own BVLOS technology and demonstrated it to the Authority. The new development allows drones to successfully diverge from other UAVs as well as aeroplanes, helicopters, and balloons.
Amazon can now expand its drone delivery operations in College Station, Texas. By the end of this decade, the US company aims to deliver up to 500 million parcels annually using UAVs.
