Italy to send Ukraine second battery of SAMP/T surface-to-air missile system that can shoot down ballistic targets

The Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive the second battery of the SAMP/T surface-to-air missile system.

Here's What We Know

The information was shared by the Italian Foreign Minister. We are talking about the system, which is now deployed in Kuwait, but will soon return back to Italy. Unfortunately, there is no timeline for the delivery of the SAMs yet.

Flashback

SAMP/T (Surface-to-Air Missile Platform/Terrain) is an advanced medium-range surface-to-air missile system developed by the European consortium Eurosam, which includes MBDA and Thales. The system is designed to protect important facilities and troops from a wide range of airborne threats, including aircraft, drones and ballistic missiles.

The main armament of SAMP/T is Aster 30 missiles, which are highly manoeuvrable and have a range of up to 100 kilometres. The complex includes a multifunctional Arabel radar capable of simultaneously tracking multiple targets and guiding missiles. SAMP/T is highly mobile, allowing for rapid deployment in various environments, providing reliable and flexible air defence.
