Russia has withdrawn almost all its troops from the border with Finland and redeployed them to the war with Ukraine

Russia has moved to Ukraine most of its troops and equipment stationed on the border with Finland, although it had previously promised to increase its presence in the region.

Here's What We Know

Satellite images obtained by the Finnish newspaper Yle show that the garrisons and military bases of the Russian army near the Finnish border are almost empty.

"Russia is scaring NATO countries with World War III, but at least near Finland, it does not seem to be preparing for war," the newspaper wrote.

"On average, 80 per cent of the equipment and soldiers have been redeployed to the war in Ukraine," Finnish intelligence officers explained.

The bases mostly had outdated equipment that had not been used for a long time. It is also known that in some garrisons, a fifth of the personnel remained, and in others even less.

"By our standards, this is rather poor equipment, but by Russian standards, it may still be suitable," the newspaper wrote.
