Copilot can now control your Android smartphone through a Windows 11 PC

Microsoft has unveiled a new feature of its AI service Copilot, which allows users to control their smartphones with Android 14 on board directly from their Windows 11-based PCs.

Now, if an Android device is linked to a PC or laptop via the Phone Link app, Copilot will be able to access contacts, search for phone numbers stored on the phone, send or receive text messages, and set an alarm on the owner's phone.

To activate the service, users need to visit copilot.microsoft.com or launch the sidebar with Copilot if you're using the Edge browser and enable the Phone plugin in the menu. Users can then send Copilot requests related to the phone. If the Android smartphone is not connected to the Phone Link app, Copilot will report a connection error and tell you how to fix it.

Phone Link is a Windows 11 service that allows phones to connect to PCs or laptops. Android users need to download the Link to Windows app from Google Play to connect to Phone Link on a PC. There's also always the option to disconnect your device from the service. Some manufacturers such as Samsung, Honor, as well as Oppo, OnePlus and Realme already provide full access to the device by pre-installing Link to Windows, making it easy for those who want to connect.
