Samsung may have patented a new design for the next-generation Galaxy Ring smart ring
Samsung may unveil the much-awaited Galaxy Ring smart ring ahead of its Unpacked event on 10 July. The device is expected to be the new word in the wearable gadget industry. A recently discovered patent application has fuelled rumours of the development of the next generation of the smart ring, possibly the Galaxy Ring 2.
Here's What We Know
The design of the first generation Galaxy Ring follows the classic round shape with inner and outer layers with all the sensors in between. These fit against the user's skin, ensuring accurate health data measurements. Samsung seems to have already started taking the first steps towards creating a second generation of the Ring. A recently revealed patent shows a ring with an enlarged portion of the outer side that is slightly flattened. The inner layer, for obvious reasons, remains completely round.
This design makes the ring look more decorative. Perhaps Samsung is trying to improve the aesthetics of the Galaxy Ring so that people will have more reasons to buy it. The raised outer layer also makes room for a larger battery and additional sensors. The company may also be thinking about adding a tiny screen. The wearable device could be equipped with a temperature sensor, acceleration sensor, fingerprint sensor and ECG measurement.
According to 91Mobiles, the patent was registered in the US in May 2024. Considering that the first generation Galaxy Ring was already ready by then, the design presented could be one of the options for the Galaxy Ring. Officially, Samsung isn't revealing much information about the Galaxy Ring, but leaks have revealed that the device has extensive health monitoring capabilities and could replace the Galaxy Watch, although for more accurate results it's better to use both devices in tandem. More details are expected at the Unpacked event, where new foldable smartphones, watches and wireless headphones will also be unveiled.
