Back in the 90s, Sega released the game Comix Zone, where, as you might guess, events take place on the pages of a comic book. And the Ukrainian studio Bear Games presented a game in a similar style, but in the soulslike genre.

Here's What We Know

Comix Zero is an open-world soulslike platformer by Kharkiv-based Bear Games. Its developers were equally inspired by Comix Zone and Elden Ring. It's both an open-world role-playing game and a witty comic book game where you can literally "punch" the boundaries between pages, characters lose their colour instead of their health, and the protagonist has a lot of B-rated jokes in his arsenal.

We play as Zero, a young slacker from Earth who travels through a new world full of chaos, cruelty, and moral dilemmas. Apart from his flair for dirty jokes and questionable personal hygiene, Zero has a plan: save the world, win a woman's heart and return home. However, remember that you are not a hero. You just happened to be here by accident. You are a nobody, a zero, a Zero.

Key features of Comix Zero:

  • Game on the pages of a comic book. A colourful collection of comics will come to life right on your monitor! Each scene unfolds on several pages, where there is everything that every fan of drawn stories loves: panels, bubble cues, grooves, and author's text.

  • A non-linear open world. Go wherever you want - but be careful, because the world is full of dangers. Comix Zero combines elements of metroidvania with a truly open world in which you can easily get lost - so draw yourself a map.

  • Fights and deaths (plural). Yes, immortality will come in handy, but the really important thing is your skills. The Comix Zero combat system is designed to think through strategy, assess opponents' weaknesses, and combine different types of attacks - you won't be able to poke buttons blindly.

  • Your very own Zero. Customise Zero's abilities and equipment to suit your own playstyle. Drink potions brewed from defeated bosses, craft powerful artefacts, complete quests from NPCs, and earn rewards.

  • A real dark fantasy. A brutal world where ancient myths are intertwined with humanity's love of war crimes, and magic is created with human blood on human skin. Each side of the conflict has its own motivation and allies, and you are right in the centre of the action, caught in the crossfire.

  • The jokes are both appropriate and inappropriate. Comix Zero's narrative is full of multifaceted characters, political intrigue, morally ambiguous choices, and traumatic experiences. And the protagonist is sure that it's all a dream or a joke, so he doesn't hold back his (dubious) sense of humour.

When We Can Expect It

Comix Zero has no release window, but the game already has a page on Steam.
