More than one million Android TV streaming set-top boxes are infected with Vo1d malware

The new Vo1d trojan has reportedly infected about 1.3 million Android TV boxes in 197 countries. The malware, detected by anti-virus company Dr.Web, modifies the system files of the devices and installs additional modules to execute commands from a remote server.

Here's What We Know

Vo1d uses outdated versions of Android that do not receive the latest security updates, making them vulnerable to attack. Infected devices include the R4 with Android 7.1.2, TV BOX with Android 12.1, and KJ-SMART4KVIP with Android 10.1.

Vo1d can download and run executable files, as well as monitor certain directories and install APK files found in them. The source of the infection is still unknown, but users are advised to update their devices to the latest versions of threat protection software.
