Even the blind can see! Elon Musk announced the Neuralink Blindsight implant, which will help you regain your sight
Elon Musk, known for his bold and unconventional view of future technologies, presented the project Neuralink Blindsight, which could become a revolution in ophthalmology, allowing to return sight to blind people, even those who can not see from birth.
Here's What We Know
The company Neuralink is developing Blindsight - this technology will make it possible to implant an implant into the area of the cerebral cortex, which is responsible for receiving and processing visual signals. Moreover, this is done bypassing damaged visual organs.
Ilon Musk admitted that in the early stages of development of this technology, it will allow to see the world as in an 8-bit game from the Atari console - the resolution will be low, but it will be enough for basic orientation in space and image recognition.
Musk is confident that in the future Blindsight will surpass human vision and will allow to see the world in the infrared and ultraviolet spectrum and even in the radio range.
Notably, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given the development a "breakthrough device" status and given the green light to conduct trials on volunteers.
As an example of using Neuralink Blindsight, Musk cited the character Geordi La Forge from the cult TV series Star Trek, which, as it turns out, is not so fantastic.
The Blindsight device from Neuralink will enable even those who have lost both eyes and their optic nerve to see.

Provided the visual cortex is intact, it will even enable those who have been blind from birth to see for the first time.
