"Ready for any mission, any time": AeroVironment has unveiled its new P550 reconnaissance drone with vertical take-off and landing capability

US company AeroVironment has unveiled its new P550 drone at the Association of the US Army exhibition.

Here's What We Know

The P550 is a reconnaissance drone with vertical takeoff and landing, which is designed for use in combat conditions and can not only increase tactical awareness of fighters, but also drop munitions on the enemy.

The UAV is made up of modules and assembles in literally 10 minutes.

Main technical specifications:

  • dimensions 5.2 metres by 2.8 metres;
  • weight of about 25kg;
  • can stay in the air for up to 5 hours;
  • communication range - 40 kilometres, but this parameter can be increased;
  • both remote and autonomous control (thanks to the AVACORE system).

Thanks to its modular design, the UAV is easily reconfigurable and the operator can adapt it to different needs, and it takes less than five minutes to reconfigure it.

The P550 is equipped with a VNS Day/Night VIO navigation system with laser terrain recognition and has flexible radio communication capabilities with frequency switching.

Another major benefit of the P550 will be the SPOTR-Edge computer vision system, which will allow the vehicle to autonomously find and target targets, reducing operator workload.

"Ready for any mission, any time" - assures the manufacturer.
