Instagram adds real-time geo-data and nicknames to personal messages

Instagram has introduced several new features for its users. Now, in some countries, the function of sharing real-time geodata in personal messages is available.

Here's What We Know

Users can share their current location for one hour in private chats - both 1:1 and in group chats. The location can be pinned to a map to make it easier to coordinate meetings.

The feature is disabled by default, and chat participants cannot send this data to others. For convenience, an indicator has been added to remind you of geo-data sharing with the ability to disable the option at any time.

Instagram also introduced 17 new sticker packs and more than 300 new options that can be added to messages. Stickers can be saved among your favourites for reuse.

Another new feature is that you can now set up nicknames for yourself and your friends in personal messages. These names will be displayed only in chats and do not change the main username. You can change nicknames and customise who can do so.
