In the autumn of 2024, 37-year-old Caleb McAlpine wrote on Reddit that he was terminally ill with stage 4 cancer. He also noted that he has 7 to 12 months to live if chemotherapy fails to slow the progression of the disease. And even if his body responds well to the treatment, he has less than two years to live.

At the same time, Caleb is a big fan of the Borderlands series. And the 4th part will be released in 2025, but the guy doesn't know if he will be able to see the game's release. That's why Gearbox gave him the opportunity to play the game already.

Here's What We Know

Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford wrote shortly after Caleb's post that the team would do everything possible to make something happen. And it happened, as the guy was invited to the studio's office.

Caleb wrote that Gearbox sent him and his friend by first class on November 20, and they were able to tour the studio and meet with the Borderlands developers.

He also added that he managed to play Borderlands 4. It was an amazing experience for him, and overall it was just amazing.

Just an update, Thank you everyone

We got to play what they did for Borderlands 4 and it was amazing. I don't know if I'll be here when the game comes out, but I just want to thank you all for your love and support and for helping to make this possible

So now the entire gaming community knows that Caleb's dream has come true.
