DC has the main DCU universe where the main events take place. But there is also DC Elseworlds. It tells stories that are not related to the DCU. And the DC Elseworlds include The Joker (2019) and Batman (2022) with Pattinson in the lead role. And the DC management thought about shoving Pattinson into the main universe, but it is very likely that this will never happen (and that's a good thing).

Here's What We Know

On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, James Gunn, the head of DC, confirmed that he considered integrating Pattinson into the new DCU, but noted that this decision depends on Reeves. Gunn emphasised the importance of creating both the main DCU and Elseworlds projects such as Joker and Superman Lois.

While Gunn finds the idea of merging both universes interesting, he noted that the final decision rests with Reeves, the writer of Batman (2022). In December 2023, Gunn explained that the separation between the DCU and The Batman was a conscious choice by Reeves, who wanted to develop his unique story without interacting with other heroes in a separate "island" of The Batman Epic Crime Saga, which includes the Batman film, the Penguin series, and the Riddler comic book.

At the moment, Pattinson is focused on continuing his role as Batman in The Batman Part II, which is scheduled for release on 2 October 2026.

In general, although Gunn is considering the possibility of uniting the universes, for now Pattinson and his character will remain within the framework of a separate story that is very popular with audiences and critics.
