Insider: Microsoft is developing a universal interface to link different devices into one recognisable Xbox ecosystem
Microsoft has long since moved away from a focus on Xbox consoles in the development of its gaming division and is promoting the idea that any device can be part of its ecosystem, be it smartphones, smart TVs, PCs or even rival consoles. To unite these disparate systems into one ecosystem, the company is developing a unified interface - as revealed by Windows Central editor Jez Corden.
Here's What We Know
Corden said that Microsoft is currently working on Project Rainway - it will be a cross-platform interface that will combine social features and other parts of the Xbox ecosystem and will allow you to buy, review games, chat with friends, share recommendations and screenshots, team up for co-op playthroughs and more.
Jez Corden believes that when developing Project Rainway, Microsoft is focusing on the Battle.net service, which was originally created for Blizzard games.
It is envisaged that the Xbox interface on different platforms will be made in a single recognisable style and will provide the same opportunities, whatever device the player uses. It is possible that there will be cloud saves, which will allow you to change devices without losing progress in games.
It is not yet known when Microsoft plans to launch such an interface, it will probably happen at the time of the release of the new Xbox console.
