Already today - 30 January - will be the release of stealth shooter Sniper Elite: Resistance from the British studio Rebellion. From the moment of announcement gamers expressed fears that they are trying to sell a standalone add-on for Sniper Elite 5 at the price of a full-fledged new game. And judging by the critics' assessments, this opinion turned out to be correct.

Here's What We Know

Critics got acquainted with Sniper Elite: Resistance beforehand and published their reviews. They confirmed that the new game is as similar as possible to the fifth part and offers the same gameplay, but in other scenery - this time it's France in 1944.

The developers tried to diversify the game with new mechanics and non-standard tasks, but they failed. Many experts are of the opinion that Sniper Elite 5 remains a more preferable purchase than Resistance, because there is more content and the game is often sold at a discount.

At the same time, Sniper Elite: Resistance can't be called a failed game, old fans of the series may well enjoy it, but the casual player is unlikely to like it.

As a result, Sniper Elite: Resistance received the following scores on aggregators:

  • Opencritic - 74 points with 66% of recommendations;
  • Metacritic - 72-76 points depending on the platform.

The undeniable advantage of Sniper Elite: Resistance will be its availability in Game Pass. Critics were also satisfied with the game's optimisation for Steam Deck.

Flashback

The main character of the game will be British special forces fighter Harry Hawker, who already appeared in Sniper Elite 3. He will go to occupied France and will help the Resistance to wage guerrilla warfare and systematically destroy Nazi officers and other important representatives of the Third Reich. To do this, the protagonist, as always, infiltrates the enemy's territory, takes a favourable position and tries to stealthily destroy targets, and the most successful shots, as well as the previous parts of Sniper Elite, are shown in slow motion and with X-ray camera.
