Suzuki did not expect such a rush: in just four days after the start of sales in Japan, the five-door Jimny received 50,000 orders. This is much more than the company planned to sell in such a short period, so the company temporarily suspended the registration of applications.

Here's What We Know

The Jimny Nomade was officially unveiled in Japan on 30 January, with first deliveries expected on 3 April. This version of the iconic SUV is manufactured in India at Maruti Suzuki's Haryana plant and is exported to over 100 countries.

Interestingly, in India itself, sales of the five-door Jimny are not impressive, so its realisation is accompanied by discounts. But, as the company representatives point out, this model is a niche model, so its sales should not be compared to crossovers.

It's the opposite with exports. The SUV has already gained popularity in Mexico, Australia and South Africa. Now it has become the second most exported Maruti Suzuki model after the Fronx.

Suzuki said it is working to reopen orders in Japan as soon as possible, but when exactly that will happen is yet to be specified.
