Italy has been included in the list of countries that have their own competencies in the production of kamikaze drones. We are talking about drones designated Mini and Small, information about which the Italians have partially classified, but are already hinting at the possibility of their transfer to Ukraine.

Here's What We Know

These drones were tested during the Italian army's exercises. Several defence companies had to be involved in their development. The developer was MBDA Italia, which worked in cooperation with Siralab and Sky Eyes Systems, companies specialising in unmanned technologies. The warheads were built by KNDS Ammo Italy.

The drone tests took place as part of the Volpe Bianca 2025 exercise with the participation of the 3rd Alpine Regiment and the 9th Cyber Security Regiment.

The Mini is a quadcopter with a starting weight of 2 kg and a 0.5 kg warhead, a range of up to 5 km and a flight time of up to 40 minutes. It is designed for use in urban areas.

The Small is an aircraft-type kamikaze drone with a starting weight of 8 kg, a 1.5 kg warhead, a range of up to 15 km and a flight duration of up to 40 minutes. It is designed for use in open terrain.

Both drones have common structural elements, including a launch tube and an optoelectronic guidance system. At the same time, their cost and possible production rates for the needs of the Italian army and potential foreign users, including the Armed Forces of Ukraine, remain unknown.
