Analyst apologises for erroneous data on Final Fantasy 16 sales, which allegedly reached 3.5 million

The financial analyst who previously stated that Final Fantasy 16 sold 3.5 million copies has officially apologised, explaining that it was only an estimate and not confirmed sales statistics.

Here's What We Know
Hideki Yasuda, an analyst at Toyo Securities, reviewed the company's report and stressed that the figure was based solely on internal forecasts and had no confirmation from Square Enix.
In his correction, he noted that the previous information was incorrect and falsely claimed that Square Enix President Takashi Kiryu had announced the data during the financial report.
As for the actual sales of Final Fantasy 16, Square Enix itself remains cautious. After the game's release in June 2023, the company said that the launch sales were "very strong", but a month later it admitted that they did not meet expectations.
