At the GDC 2025 conference, Korean studio Pearl Abyss gave a technical demo of its ambitious action-RPG Crimson Desert that wowed journalists.

Here's What We Know

The authors focused on showing the capabilities of the BlackSpace Engine, which provides not only excellent graphics and decent performance, but also reliable physics, realistic lighting and believable interaction of various factors.

For example, when the hero falls into the water, not all his clothes get wet, as it usually happens in games, but only that part of it, which was directly in the water.

Wind physically correct flutters the hero's hair and clothes, moves trees and small vegetation, raises leaves, snow and other small particles in the air. Fog sometimes descends and densely envelops the surrounding world, seriously limiting visibility.

Crimson Desert locations look as colourful, picturesque and interesting as possible, there are a lot of small details on them, and the general elaboration is at a high level.

The videos confirm that Crimson Desert is characterised by stunning graphics and deep mechanics. But it should be noted that the Korean action game is extremely similar to many popular modern games, including The Witcher 3, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Elden Ring, Final Fantasy XVI, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Dragon's Dogma 2.

When We Can Expect It

The developers have yet to name a release date for Crimson Desert, but it is known that the game will be released in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
