We're going to miss you: Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan has left Blizzard
Blizzard blog posted a message from Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan announcing his departure from the company after 19 years
What we know
Blizzard Entertainment is currently working on Overwatch 2, but a different person will now take over as director - Aaron Keller, the former Assistant Director of Overwatch. He said that the process of creating the second part of the game is going well and promised to share the latest news soon. Kaplan himself said about his departure:
“I am leaving Blizzard Entertainment after 19 wonderful years. It was a real honor for me to create entire worlds and heroes for such an incredible audience. I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone at Blizzard who has supported our games, our teams, and our players. But I would like to separately thank the developers who shared this incredible journey with me. Never accept the world as it seems. Always try to see what it could become."
Jeff did not name the reason for this decision, and what Overwatch 2 will now be is unknown, but let's hope that it will not become worse than the first. Jeff Kaplan joined Blizzard back in 2002 and began his career at the company by QA testing Warcraft III and developing PvE elements in World of Warcraft. In 2009, he moved on to the new Titan project, which was shut down 5 years later and used as a template for Overwatch.
