Instagram introduces paid subscriptions: what and how much will I have to pay for?
After the huge success of platforms like Patreon and OnlyFans, some social networks have started introducing ways for users to support the people they subscribe to with money. Instagram, too, is gearing up to launch a new subscription to support creators.
As noted by analytics firms Sensor Tower and Apptopia, Instagram's iOS app has recently been substantially updated. The app's App Store page now features an "Embedded Purchases" section with a set of "Instagram Subscriptions" items. Pricing ranges from $0.99 to $4.99.
While Instagram has yet to say anything about the real purpose of these in-app purchases, they are likely part of the company's strategy to further monetize the platform. At the same time, users are being offered a way to financially reward their favorite content creators.
And since "Instagram Subscriptions" has so clearly hit on the App Store, the official announcement of the new feature is surely not far off. Whether content creators will be able to build a paywall that can only be broken through with subscriptions is unknown.
