Thousands of images sold as NFT were published for free

The Australian programmer has published thousands of images in the public domain, published in the non-fungible token (NFT) format. He stated that it was a simple art project aimed at demonstrating how absurd the concept of copyright for digital assets is.

The creator of the project, Jeff Huntley, stated that he collected all the NFT images that were created using the Ethereum and Solana blockchains. They are now available to everyone on a site called NFT Bay, which apparently mimics the world famous Pirate Bay torrent tracker.

The collection was compiled into a single 17 terabyte file, and the download torrent quickly became known as the Billion Dollar Torrent. Indeed, people spend huge sumsto obtain ownership of images that can be copied fairly easily from the Internet. The author of the project also said that copyright-related images NFT are usually not posted on the blockchain, and instructions on where to download the corresponding image are considered an asset NFT...

NFT fans argue that the unique blockchain ID associated with the image makes each copy rare and valuable. Critics of this idea argue that these assets can be easily copied by right-clicking and saving the image itself.
