Taiwan Wants to Launch Chip Manufacturing in Eastern Europe: Three Countries Mentioned
Taiwan is considering the possibility of cooperation in the field of semiconductors with three countries in Eastern Europe. The move is likely to meet with support from Brussels, which is courting Taiwanese chipmakers in hopes of getting them into production in the EU.
Taiwan is a kind of technology "superpower" - home to companies like TSMC, which hopes to solve the problem of global chip shortages. The shortage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has forced many equipment manufacturers to cut production. Among them are companies producing consumer electronics, home appliances, automobiles and medical equipment.
Kung Ming-Sin, who heads Taiwan's National Development Council, told reporters after his visits to Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Lithuania last month that all three countries have expressed clear interest in possible chip production in cooperation with the Asian country.
