A US fast-food restaurant has launched testing of a robotic delivery boy

Fast-food restaurant chain Chick-fil-A has launched tests of autonomous robotic delivery vehicles with artificial intelligence in Alpharetta, Georgia.

Here's What We Know

The devices are equipped with AI systems and advanced depth perception cameras. This allows them to navigate traffic patterns, pedestrians and manoeuvre around roads, busy shopping centres and pavements.

Robots store orders at the correct temperature. They have the ability to navigate to the designated location, informing guests of the route and estimated delivery time.

Upon arrival, the robot sends a text message to the customer with information on how to pick up the order.

The company hopes that the autonomous couriers will improve restaurant operations and reduce delivery costs. In addition, delivery robots are already being tested in California, Texas and Florida.
