DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis has acknowledged the authenticity of a leaked memo from a Google engineer in which he questioned the company's future in AI.
Here's What We Know
In May, SemiAnalysis discovered a memo allegedly written by one of the tech giant's engineers. According to it, neither Google nor OpenAI has what it needs to succeed in the AI industry.
Instead, according to the researcher, "a third faction has been quietly eating our lunch" He was referring to open-source AI models that are "faster, more customizable, more private, and pound-for-pound more capable.".
Hassabis said Google employees often write various documents and sometimes they end up on the web. That said, he disagreed with the arguments in the leaked memo.
