Associated Press has set rules on the use of artificial intelligence for journalists
The Associated Press has released a guide to generative artificial intelligence for its journalists who can use the technology in newsgathering.
Here's What We Know
AP journalists have been allowed to experiment with ChatGPT. However, they are asked to be careful not to use the tool to create published content. Any output from the platform "should be treated as unvetted source material".
The publication said it will not allow artificial intelligence to alter photos, videos or audio content. Nor will AP use generated images unless they are the subject of a news story. In that case, journalists are required to tag photos generated by artificial intelligence in the caption.
Authors have been banned from entering sensitive information into AI tools. They must also ensure that other sources used are "free of AI-generated content"
AP employees are asked to avoid inadvertently using AI content to spread misinformation. They are asked to carefully check the credibility of sources.
