All 50 U.S. attorneys general have called on the U.S. Congress to help fight CSAMs created by artificial intelligence
The attorneys general of all 50 US states have called on the US Congress to create a commission to study the impact of artificial intelligence on child exploitation.
Here's What We Know
In a letter sent to lawmakers, the attorneys general say the proposed commission should develop solutions to prevent artificial intelligence from creating child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
They said attackers can train AI to create dipfakes and also animate realistic sexualised images of children that do not exist. The attorneys general added that readily available artificial intelligence tools make the process "easier than ever".
The initiative was spearheaded by South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson. The signatories of the letter ask Congress to create a commission to study AI tools and techniques that could be used to exploit children. They also call for expanding"existing restrictions on CSAM to explicitly cover AI-generated CSAM"
The attorneys general applauded lawmakers' efforts to address AI in national security and education. However, they believe the safety of children should not be overlooked.
