Microsoft has temporarily blocked ChatGPT for employees for security reasons

Microsoft has temporarily restricted its employees' access to the ChatGPT service from startup OpenAI. An explanation on an internal website pointed to security and data privacy issues.

Microsoft has invested more than $10bn in OpenAI over the past year. Even so, the company considers ChatGPT a third-party service, which requires caution when using it, the post noted.

Initially, the advisory mentioned banning ChatGPT and Canva. Microsoft then removed those services from the list, and after media reports, restored access to the chatbot.

A Microsoft spokesperson said the temporary blocking was due to an error while testing control systems for AI models. Access was quickly restored after the problem was discovered.

Previously, many companies have imposed restrictions on ChatGPT to prevent sensitive data from leaking out. Microsoft also recommends using enterprise versions of AI for greater security.
