UK Transport Minister Mark Harper said that autonomous cars could appear on the country's roads as early as 2026. According to him, the technology is fully developed and safe.
Here's What We Know
Companies plan to start introducing self-driving vehicles during 2026. This should improve safety on the roads, as well as bring Britain £42bn of revenue from the international market by 2035.
The Ministry of Transport said that autonomous vehicles will give personal freedom to people with disabilities and those who cannot drive themselves.
Earlier this year, the UK government had already authorised road trials of driverless autonomous driving systems. Opponents point to the risks, citing hundreds of accidents involving unmanned vehicles in California.
