NVIDIA RTX graphics cards can now convert SDR content to HDR using artificial intelligence

NVIDIA has launched a new RTX Video HDR feature for all RTX GPU owners that uses artificial intelligence to convert video in SDR colour space to HDR.

Here's What We Know

RTX Video HDR is included in the 551.23 Game Ready driver release. To activate it, you need an RTX 20 series graphics card or higher, as the feature uses tensor cores to run AI algorithms.

In addition, you must have Windows 10 installed on your computer, and an HDR-enabled monitor is required.

You can enable RTX Video HDR in the NVIDIA Control Panel, under Video>Video Settings.

NVIDIA also uses artificial intelligence techniques in its Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) system to improve graphics quality in games. In 2022, the company will introduce Deep Learning Dynamic Super Resolution (DLDSR) technology with similar goals.

Another example of AI is the Eye Contact feature in NVIDIA's Broadcast package to simulate eye contact in video calls.
