The Czech Republic, after ordering the F-35 Lightning II, decided to establish a centre for training pilots of fifth-generation fighters
While Romania prepares to launch F-16 pilot training, the Czech Republic decides to set up a centre to train F-35 pilots. This comes after the country ordered two dozen fifth-generation fighters.
Here's What We Know
Czech firms LOM Praha and VR Group are working on the creation of the new training centre. They want to sign a contract with Lockheed Martin, which will involve the transfer of technology and pilot training methods.
The agreement between the Czech and American companies is expected to be concluded early next year. The new training centre will allow the Czech Republic to train F-35 pilots for its own air force and for the air forces of other European countries.
The training of Czech pilots will consist of three stages. First, the pilots will train on L-39NG training aircraft, after which they will travel to the United States to fly the F-35. The last phase will take place at an airbase in the Czech Republic.
Authorities at the end of September 2023 approved the purchase of 24 F-35A Lightning II fifth-generation conventional takeoff and landing fighters. The Czech Republic is allocating $5bn to buy the aircraft and $1.5bn to upgrade infrastructure and buy fuel, as well as to train pilots and ground staff.
