TSMC left Samsung with nothing and took all orders for Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chips
Taiwanese giant TSMC has received an order to produce all of the next-generation Snapdragon 8 processors. This is reported by TrendForce, citing TechNews.
Here's What We Know
Qualcomm usually uses the services of two companies to produce processors. It was assumed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 would be produced by TSMC and Samsung. However, the South Korean tech giant was left behind.
The reason is that the pace of implementation of 3GAP and SF3 technological processes does not suit Qualcomm. For this reason, the American company did not enter into an agreement with Samsung for the production of Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.
Samsung complicates the second generation of 3-nanometre technology by using a more complex MBCFET transistor structure. This has a negative impact on the yield of yearly products. TSMC does not face similar problems. The Taiwanese company intends to increase the revenue share of 3nm process technology from 5% to 10%.
