Apple may announce at WWDC that it will drop the famous "Hey Siri" phrase - Bloomberg

Apple's traditional WWDC conference kicks off in a few days, where the company is expected to unveil exciting new gadgets. But not only that: Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that the event will not only feature presentations, but also important announcements.

Here's What We Know

The insider believes that Apple may announce an important change at WWDC. This is the abandonment of the famous phrase "Hey Siri", which is the command to launch the Siri voice assistant. Instead, users will simply have to say "Siri".

"While that might seem like a small change, making the switch is a technical challenge that requires a significant amount of AI training and underlying engineering work. The complexity involves Siri being able to understand the singular phrase «Siri» in multiple different accents and dialects. Having two words — «Hey Siri» — increases the likelihood of the system properly picking up the signal"""While that might seem like a small change, making the switch is a technical challenge that requires a significant amount of AI training and underlying engineering work. This will bring Siri closer to Alexa, which is activated after the simple phrase 'Alexa'.

Mark Gurman originally thought Siri's innovations would take effect sometime in 2023 or 2024, but his predictions have now changed.
